E-Nose Instruments (or Electronic Nose) detect odours /flavours using flash gas chromatography technology and unique technical applications, to assess the chemical composition and related sensory attributes of food and beverages.

Human sensory panels have been a tried and tested method for representing food and beverage consumer experience and quality for several years. Individual abilities have a wide scope of detecting all flavours and off notes, including basic tastes. Panel feedback is easy to interpret and relatively straightforward to set up.

However, human sensory panels also have some challenges and limitations, such as requiring 10-15 people to be present every time, who need routine training and proficiency testing – this can be time-consuming and pulls individuals away from their day-to-day roles. Only a limited number of samples can be run at each session, where external factors need to be carefully controlled to avoid influencing results.
